I am gutted.

Bloody Windows Live Mail.

Grrr.

On Wednesday evening, I decided to look at how the Windows Live Mail program worked on my laptop. I never use any mail clients on this computer so was just seeing how it worked. I started it up and entered my Hotmail details and every single email I had on the server was downloaded.

I decided I preferred picking up my email from the iPhone or from the Hotmail site so I deleted the email from the inbox and then emptied the deleted folder.

As I was doing this, I thought it would be best to check the Hotmail site to see if the mail was being removed from the server. I didn't see any changes so continued with my mission to rid the email from my laptop.

Once I had achieved my goal, I logged out of Windows Live Mail hoping to never return.

Minutes later, I went onto the Hotmail site to find I had zero email in my inbox!

I've had the email account for almost ten years and there was a lot of stuff I had saved up over the years on there: email from wrestling personalities, betting account information (fortunately most of this is written down), receipts and warranties from online purchases, funny email I had shared with friends in the near ten years. You know, the usual things you would find on an email account.

It's annoying but there is only one person to blame - yours truly.

I wrote the above on Thursday morning. It is now 2pm on Thursday afternoon and I had spent the best part of the morning and early afternoon trying to find a way to retrieve my missing email.

I downloaded a program to try and assist me - it failed.

I searched help websites and message boards trying to find a solution but everything I tried didn't work.

And then I found out I could regain lost email from a link in the deleted folder on the Hotmail website.

It took me a while to put everything back in place but it's all sorted now.

Phew.
