I have watched both of the Tron films in the past twenty-four hours so I thought I would leave a post telling you what I thought.
I wrote about the original Tron a number of years ago. I noted how they should do a remake of it without knowing they were working on a sequel. Way back when I initially saw it, I couldn't understand it (I was four years old) and I watched it again in 1987 or '88 and still didn't fully grasp the film.
All I could remember from the times of seeing it was the colour blue.
And the blue colour was ever present as I watched it with thirty-two year old eyes. It was still blue and still very confusing. Well, 'confusing' would be the wrong thing to say about it. I understood it, I just felt the story was dull.
As for Tron Legacy - I think it is an improvement.
It had a better storyline and the effects were obviously a thousand times better than the first.
Sequels often have a hard task of being better than its predecessors but Tron Legacy definitely passed that test. I think the thing that did it was the effects from the 1982 film didn't really hold up as well to those of today's.
I'd bet there are a lot of Tron fans who hated the sequel, though. I have one of those feelings.
