I'm quite sure that I have titled at least one post 'Beginner's Luck' in the time that I've been doing this blog. Today is one of those times where the title is appropriate.
I want to make one thing clear - I am not a fan of the National Lottery.
Not much, anyway.
I used to play it when it launched in 1994 but this had more to do with me being just under the age to play it (I was fifteen) so I would buy a ticket because I felt I was being cool/bad - take your pick.
As I grew up and realised the chances of me winning were astronomical I eyed up other kinds of gambling for fun.
I would rather sit and watch a game of football with a few pounds on the result than sit there with a lottery ticket hoping for my six numbers to come out.
'Oh look, Cardiff are still drawing 0-0 but wait until Earnshaw scores' was so much better than 'damn it, I don't have that number'.
I was in the shop last Friday and noticed the advertising for the Euro Millions - I thought I would have a go at it but made a mistake.
I bought a ticket for the main draw and couldn't be bothered correcting myself.
When I returned home, I figured I would sign up to the Lottery website and place a Euro Millions bet online. I deposited five pounds and did two Euro Millions and then had another ticket on Saturday's lotto.
On Sunday, I received an email from the Lottery website telling me to log into my account as they had news for me in regard to the Saturday ticket.
I had three numbers.
I withdrew the ten pounds and called it - BEGINNER'S LUCK.
But I went back for more.
On Tuesday, I deposited some more money to have another go at the Euro Millions draw. I had a few pounds left over and decided to play one of the online scratch cards.
I won my £1 back in my first go.
I lost in my second.
I decided to have one more go and won £25.
Yep - Beginner's Luck. Again.
I didn't fall into the trap most beginner's fall into, though. I quit while I was ahead.
Roll on the football.
