Yesterday morning, whilst listening to the radio in the car, I was thinking about all the allegations facing the News of the World newspaper and thought to myself how could they carry on with all the advertisers and sponsors jumping ship.
I didn't think the paper would cease publication - I just thought it would struggle for a while.
Ultimately, the news reached me later in the afternoon that the newspaper was going to finish after this Sunday's edition.
The telephone hacking of murder victims' and fallen soldiers' families was a crass and disgusting act carried out by those working for the company and closing down the paper was the right course to take.
The suspicious side to my nature makes me think there will be a new paper launched in a few weeks that will be just like the News of the World, run by the same people (albeit not those linked to phone hacking) hut with a different name.
If this happens, I don't see what would have been achieved other than a newspaper being re-branded after failing its readers and, even more importantly, the British public.
