The New WrestleMania Rumour

The rumour going around now is that The Undertaker will face-off against Triple H in one of the marquee matches at this year's WrestleMania.

Added into the mix is Shawn Michaels as referee.

This was one of the original plans for WrestleMania XVII in 2001 but was pulled when Michaels showed up at the TV tapings a few weeks before the show 'in no condition to perform' and was sent home.

The match took place without the Heartbreak Kid's involvement.

Since then, Michaels found God, overcame his demons, redeemed himself both in and out of the ring and has since retired.

The match, ten years on, should tell a better story than it would have back then.

Michaels' friendship with Triple H was already established back in the late '90s when both were a part of the original D-Generation X. The two teamed back up at numerous points from 2006 so the current fan base will also be aware of their history together.

Michaels also has previous with The Undertaker.

His past two WrestleMania appearances has been in matches against 'The Phenom' with the Texan hellbent on ending The Undertaker's WrestleMania winning streak.

It was also The Undertaker who retired Michaels at last year's show.

Adding Michaels into the storyline is an interesting twist and does make sense. I just don't feel that it is something that I would like to see when names like Brock Lesnar and Sting have been thrown around as rumoured opponents for The Undertaker.

It seems even more of a letdown when I consider that we have already seen a Triple H versus Undertaker match at a Mania.

Late update - The rumour mill has now stepped up its pace. It is now a possibility that this will be another Career vs Streak match. It's a new interesting twist to the match. The problem is, can Triple H stay retired? I doubt it. Still, it's a stipulation that intrigues me.
