Fedor Taps

As I have probably written on here before - I have been an on and off again follower of mixed martial arts.

I go through phases where I get interested in the upcoming big fights, record them and then watch them the following morning.

Staying up until nearly six in the morning to watch them is out of the question and should prove the point that I am not as big a fan as I am of other sports (and wrestling!).

The big fight this past weekend was for the Strikeforce promotion and was set to pit Fabricio Werdum against Fedor Emelianenko.

I kept hearing the name 'Fedor' for years but had only seen pictures of him. Fedor wasn't in the UFC and that is the only mixed martial arts promotion I watch.

It was argued that Fedor was the greatest fighter in the sport as he was on a near ten-year undefeated streak. In fact, the only time he had lost was via a TKO after suffering a cut during a fight in 2000.

In tonight's bout, Fedor tapped out after being forced into a submission manoeuvre and has made quite the news item already.

Remember what I said the other day about following my gut instinct?

I was looking through the fight odds yesterday afternoon and a thought crossed my mind on whether to bet against him.

I then discounted that prediction and closed the web browser without thinking about it again.

Until I read the headline.

Fedor Taps.
