In this week's issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it is noted that WWE are due to release a DVD featuring the first year of Monday Night Raw.
Raw debuted on January 11th 1993 so this set could be made up of either fifty to fifty-one episodes of the television show.
Fifty (episodes) multiplied by forty (minutes - you've got to take off a lot for the commercials that split it up) means there must be about thirty-three hours of content.
I didn't get to see full episodes of Raw back then as Sky only started showing the series in the Autumn of 1995. What we did get, however, were clips of the angles and some of the matches on the Saturday TV show - WWF Mania.
The problem for me is - I hardly got to see WWF Mania as I was out delivering newspapers at 12pm on a Saturday.
1993 had a load of good angles and matches so I am definitely going to buy this if it does see the light of day.
Below are some of the things you can expect to see in the set:
- The debut episode of Monday Night Raw
- The return of Brutus Beefcake and the angle afterwards which turned Jimmy Hart babyface against Money INC. This subsequently paved the way for the return of Hulk Hogan
- Bobby Heenan's departure from the WWF being kicked out of the Manhattan Center by Gorilla Monsoon.
- The 1-2-3 Kid beating Razor Ramon in the ultimate upset
There are so many other matches and angles that I can count but the above are the ones I can remember fondly.
