In The Hunt

Tonight is the final night of the NFL regular season and it's time for the - pardon my French - headfuck to begin.

Every single year I watch this sport, I find it hard to figure out the scenario of the play-offs on the final day as there are a lot of teams vying for the wild card places.

They are - as the NFL analysts say - 'still in the hunt'.

I think I have this figured out:

New Yorks Jets are through if they win.

Baltimore Ravens are through if they win.

Pittsburgh Steelers are in if they win and Houston loses OR Houston loses and Baltimore loses OR the NY Jets, Baltimore and Denver lose.

Houston Texans are in if the New York Jets and Baltimore lose OR Jets and Denver Broncos lose OR Denver and Baltimore lose.

The Denver Broncos situation is a bit harder. They can qualify for the play-offs if the Jets and Baltimore both lose OR Jets and Steelers lose OR Jets lose and Houston wins OR Baltimore and Pittsburgh both lose OR Baltimore loses and Houston wins.

To complicate these matters even more - Denver can lose and still get through but they will need Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Houston and Jacksonville all to lose OR Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Houston and New York Jets to fail to win OR Pittsburgh, Houston, Jacksonville and NY Jets to lose OR Miami, NY Jets, Baltimore, Houston and Jacksonville all to lose.

The Jacksonville Jaguars can make the play-offs if they win and Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Denver and Houston lose OR Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Denver and NY Jets lose OR Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Houston and Jets lose OR Pittsburgh, Denver, Houston and Jets all fail to win OR New York Jets, Denver, Houston and Baltimore all lose.

The Miami Dolphins can secure a play-off spot if they win and New York Jets, Baltimore, Houston and Jacksonville lose.

Got it?

Thought not.

There sure are a lot of OR's
