2009 : The Year In Review

The first post of 2009 was titled '2009: The Year In Preview' and I made some bold - and some not so bold - predictions for the year.

As it is the final day of 2009, I'm going to look back at what I said back then and give myself a point for being right and deducting a point for getting it wrong.

WrestleMania XXV will be headlined by Edge vs Triple H

I was wrong. The main event was Triple H vs Randy Orton.

Stone Cold Steve Austin will be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame the night before Mania and come out of retirement at the event for one final match. His opponent will be Chris Jericho

I was half-right. But, to be half-right, you have to be half-wrong, too! Austin was inducted into the Hall of Fame but failed to come out of retirement for one final match. I'll take half a point credit on this one, thank you.

Michael Owen will do Newcastle United a favour and leave during the January transfer window. He will then end up being a frequent patient of Inter Milan's medical room

I won't take any half points for this one. Owen did leave Newcastle but did so in the summer sinnce his contract had expired. He didn't end up a frequent patient of the Inter Milan medical room - he became one at Old Trafford.

Cardiff City will return to Wembley in May

The Wrestler, despite all the critical acclaim it has received, will not win an Oscar

I had this one right.

Frank Mir will destroy Brock Lesnar for the UFC heavyweight title

Mir lost.

Cheryl Cole will leave Girls Aloud

I'm taking half a point here. She didn't leave but she has made movement in that direction.

The Indianapolis Colts will beat the New York Giants in the Super Bowl

Neither team made it.

Ricky Hatton will once again lose to Floyd Mayweather, Jr

Nope.

Kimbo Slice will be a UFC fighter by Christmas

He was named one of the contestants on UFC's Ultimate Fighter reality show and fought on the live season finale. I win!

Yes.

EastEnders will have a Christmas episode that is far from jolly and there will be a Summer episode where a few of them go away and have a miserable time and some soul searching is done(MY BANKER)

I was spot on. Archie Mitchell was murdered on Christmas Day and Ronnie Mitchell went on a soul searching mission when Danielle died in the summer.

Who is Kizarny? Kizarny was given his release by WWE early in 2009. Another correct prediction.
