One of the best things about my online subscription to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is access to the old episodes of Dave Meltzer's Observer show that used to be on Eyada.com.
The Eyada online radio station ran from 1999 to 2001 and the Wrestling Observer Live was on every weeknight from 11-1pm UK.
I used to listen to the previous evening's show while in the computer room at university and eventually hooked up to the Internet at home and listened live.
Unfortunately, my modem got struck by lightning in the summer of 2001 and I was offline for two weeks. In that time, the station folded. I was bothered to realise I missed the final few episodes.
When I signed up for the Observer online last year, I noticed that there was a user on the site who had hundreds of episodes of the show so I spent a few hours saving them to my hard drive.
I've listened to about sixty since June 2008.
I'm currently listening to shows from February 2001 which is when things were just beginning to turn awry for WCW. It's interesting listening to each episode knowing what went down when the company ended up being sold to the WWF.
Yes, the WWF. This was before the name change.
It's also fun hearing how certain wrestlers are doing in developmental. John Cena, Brock Lesnar, and Leviathan have been brought up in a few of the interviews. Way back then, they were up-and-comers. Today - they are mainstream names.
'Leviathan a household name?' I hear you ask.
