Soccer Season Bet 2009/10

After months of research, the season bet for 2009/10 has finally been placed.

As you've probably read on here over the past few weeks, the one league I found hard to pick a potential winner from was the Premier League. I didn't even know what to do until I was at the till and filling in the odds on the other teams.

I picked Chelsea.

Manchester United was a safe option, Manchester City are too risky to back.

Chelsea, on the other hand, can claim to be the most stable team out of the three. United are going to miss Ronaldo and Tevez while City's new team is untested and I didn't want to risk them.

The only thing I have against Chelsea is that they have a new manager in Carlo Ancelotti. Apart from that, the team is relatively the same.

As for the bet itself - I picked twelve things to happen from tonight until (hopefully!) the last whistle blow at the World Cup final in 2010. I placed all the teams (and player in one of the selections) into a full cover each-way bet at 1p a line. As there are 4083 possible bets in this situation - and at each way - the overall stake was £81.66.

The selections and prices are:

1) Real Madrid to win the Champions' League 5/1
2) Real Madrid to win La Liga 11/10
3) Bayern Munich to win the Bundesliga 4/6
4) Lyon to win La Championnat 11/8
5) Chelsea to win the Premier League 2/1
6) Ipswich to win the Coca-Cola Championship 9/1
7) MK Dons to win Coca-Cola League 1 9/1
8) Bury to win Coca-Cola League 2 14/1
9) Dundee to win Scottish League 1 6/5
10) Airdrie to win Scottish League 2* 13/8
11) Brazil to win the World Cup 5/1
12) Samuel Eto'o to be the top scorer in Serie A 7/2

I'll return to this subject at specific points through the season to commentate on how the bet is doing.

*I've just realised that Airdrie United have been promoted from Scottish League 2 due to Livingston being demoted to League 3. This is pending an appeal so I am hoping Livingston can win otherwise this section on the betting slip will be deemed void.
