Odds 'N Sods

On New Year's Day of this year, we had a knock at the door from the police.

A girl had been driving and swerved out of the way of a car and crashed into the back of my Father's parked car.

The crash caused considerable damage and was away for about three weeks getting repaired.

A few days ago, my Dad asked me to look after his keys and give them to my Sister's boyfriend so he could look after them while he was away in Scotland. I asked him why didn't he just leave the car out the front as usual and his response was that he didn't want to risk it getting hit again while he wasn't around.

I then began an argument with him on probability and how it was unlikely the same event would occur again.

My stance was the car had been out the front for years and had only been hit once so it wouldn't happen again or - if it did - it wouldn't happen when he was away for the week. The odds were against a hit.

And I was right.

Sort of.

Nearly one month after my Dad returned and almost two months to the day of the first crash - we had another car bump into it.

So much for my calculations!
