Batman Begun

I'm a little behind when it comes to the Batman movie franchise.

I hadn't seen Batman Begins but got a copy of The Dark Knight a few weeks ago and made a point of watching the initial part first.

So, I spent yesterday afternoon watching Batman Begins and something was irking me. Bear in mind, this question may have been answered three years ago. I just didn't ask it back then.

Why is it called Batman Begins?

Warner Brothers made Batman movies back in the late '80s and throughout the 1990s and it's easy to see why they wanted to 'begin' again. The last few titles in the series were abysmal.

Wouldn't it have been easier and more appropriate to Christen the movie Batman Renaissance, or are we meant to forget the other four movies exist?
