John Cena returns to WWE at the Survivor Series tonight and the company are praying he brings back lost viewers.
The wrestler has been sidelined since the end of the Summer and it appears that his employers think it is because of this that their ratings have been on the slide.
He has been positioned straight into a World title match which makes me scratch my head as it looks like panic booking.
The unwritten rule is for a returning star to face someone in one match and then have him in a title match at a later date. This way you get two buys - one for the return and one for the title chase.
I don't think his return will have any difference in the long-term for the ratings.
I expect Raw on Monday to have a spike because of the curiosity of the Survivor Series. The telling signal will be from next week onwards.
As far as tonight is concerned - don't expect Cena to walk out as champion. There's money in the chase and I think we won't see him holding the belt until WrestleMania XXV.
I have been wrong in the past, though.
