The Push

Lance Cade's departure from World Wrestling Entertainment is another example of the politics that immerses itself within pro wrestling.

I wrote a few months ago about how this student of Shawn Michaels was set to be a key figure in the feud between his tutor and Chris Jericho. Cade joined Jericho as a lackey and was at the World champion's side during most, if not all, of Michaels' and Jericho's interaction.

A few weeks ago, Cade got a pin against Michaels in a tag team match where he teamed with Jericho and John 'Bradshaw' Layfield against Batista and the Heartbreak Kid.

That pin is symbolic of this idea that he was destined for good things.

If WWE were sour on him, as this release obviously proves, there is no way he would have been put in a position to score a victory over one of the top stars in the business.

A week after scoring this fall over Michaels, Cade found himself in another Raw main event. This time he was facing off against Michaels and Triple H alongside his on-screen ally, Chris Jericho.

The finishing sequence of the match saw Cade mess up a spot where he was meant to receive a kick from Michaels which would lead to him falling towards Triple H in order to be pedigreed. Cade hit the mat after the superkick and Hunter was obviously angry at the missed spot as you can hear him yell 'up!

Evidence to prove that you shouldn't aggravate the son-in-law of the owner.

A week after this messed up finish, Cade was placed in a singles match against Michaels. The Showstopper beat him. I figured it was a way for Michaels to get a win back from two weeks earlier. In actuality, it was WWE wiping their hands of the wrestler.

He was absent from Monday's Raw and an announcement was made on the WWE website yesterday evening that he had been released from his contract.

It's not the first time an act has gone from the proverbial penthouse to the outhouse in rapid succession and it also isn't the first time that Triple H has had a say in whether someone has what it takes to make it in this business and crush what ever prospect they have.

Accidents happen. Mistakes occur. In pro wrestling, there are a lot of people ready to stick the knife in when these errors take place.

Lance Cade was the most recent example.
