'Incorrectly Reported'

It's funny how the press works.

I heard rumours throughout yesterday that Kevin Keegan was having a meeting with Mike Ashley at Newcastle United in regards to his job.

I was watching Setanta Sports News, refreshing newspaper websites and listening to TalkSport radio for any news on the situation.

By the late afternoon, the first article about Keegan leaving Newcastle appeared on The Sun's website. The following picture is the splash that appeared on the page:

Then - hours later - Newcastle posted a press release on their site claiming that Keegan was still in charge of the club. The Sun, along with all the other news sources, changed their stories.

The first thing I did this morning was read the new articles on The Sun and there was one sentence that stood out. The paper claimed that it was TV stations that 'incorrectly reported' his dismissal.

Bullshit.

Like I said, I kept my eyes and ears on everything yesterday and it was the TV stations that ran with the newspaper's story.

This isn't the first time this week that I shook my head at incorrect reports in The Sun.

A number of days ago, the paper claimed that the mansion fire that took place in Shropshire was a gang hit after Christopher Foster owed a debt to the underworld. This story ran long before any bodies were found. It claimed that the whole family were shot dead and then the killers set fire to the home.

When the fire crew failed to find any bodies in the first few hours after controlling the fire, the paper changed their initial story just in case the Fosters had run-off.

Unfortunately, the actual story was that Chris Foster murdered his wife and daughter before setting alight to his home and killing himself.

I know the Keegan story pales in comparison but the point remains the same - they report what they feel yet quietly hide themselves when the truth is revealed.

At least acknowledge you've got it wrong.
