Good Riddance

You know what - I have probably titled a few posts 'Good Riddance' in the two and a half years I have written this blog. Today's edition of the 'Good Riddance' message goes to one person.

Robbie Fowler.

If you pick up a football quote book and head to the page that reads 'Football is a business' you will see this fella's face on it.

Fowler joined Cardiff City last Summer and spent more time in the medical room than he did on the training ground. He was the biggest waste of money I think the club has ever spent.

Sure, he had his moments on the pitch. It's a shame that they were few and far between.

I remember a conversation I had the day of the FA Cup final when I heard rumours that Fowler was going to make it on the team sheet. I said there and then that Fowler shouldn't even be considered to play because he did nothing to get them that far and the players who worked hard for the club deserved the place more.

Thankfully, Dave Jones decided to keep him away from the match. So, I got my wish.

My next wish was for Fowler to come back next season and repay the club for that year he spent collecting money for sod all. It is the least he could have done. Cardiff were smartened to him this time, too. They had a new contract in place ready for him to sign. This time he was to ink a pay-as-you-play deal. No more easy money.

Instead, Mr. Fowler decided to head off to Blackburn Rovers at the eleventh hour. He let down a lot of people at Cardiff City. But - like that person said - Football is a business.

Cardiff City aren't getting off lightly in this blog today, either.

Their treatment of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was disgusting. He deserved the second year at the club. He worked his socks off for the team and was an inspirational mentor to the squad. They told him his services weren't needed when he showed up for pre-season training.

Fowler wasn't as keen to show up for this coming season.

But that's just business.
