The Fabulous Moolah

Lillian Ellison was known around the World as the Fabulous Moolah.

Her career as a professional wrestler began in the 1950's when she wrestled as 'Slave Girl Moolah' and then as the moniker she used through the rest of her half a century in the business.

Moolah's greatest accomplishment in the industry is that she held the Women's Championship title from 1956 until she lost it to Wendi Richter on July 23rd 1984.Her dominance of the title established her as the most important and famous women wrestlers in the history of wrestling.

In her autobiography - released in 2002 - Moolah claims that a young Elvis Presley was one of her fans.

Moolah made sporadic appearances in the WWE in recent years. These include being the first female to be inducted into the company's Hall of Fame in the Summer of 1995 as well returning to the ring at the age of seventy-six to regain the Women's title at the No Mercy pay-per-view in the Autumn of 1999.

The Fabulous Moolah passed away yesterday at her home on Moolah Drive in Columbia, South Carolina.
