Paddy Power Poker had a $1 tournament yesterday where the winner was awarded with the first seat available for the Irish Open which will be held next Spring.
I gave it a go.
Qualifying for the Irish Open has been one of my goals ever since I started playing poker. I have come very close to securing a place at the Dublin event but have always fallen short.
Last year was the closest I had got to winning a seat. I was in a freeroll and made it to the final table but it ended in a calamitous way.
The desk I was sitting at decided to fall apart and I spent the latter part of the game with my leg holding up the keyboard tray.
I ended up in third place. Close but no cigar.
I got the email from the company telling me about the $1 chance for a seat and took up the opportunity. Over four hundred players took part. I ended up in 314th place.
They say 'you've got to be in it to win it'. They forget to tell you about the losing.
