Plan C

The WWE have had to change their storylines twice in the last week. Ironically, both these shifts were made due to similar injuries.

The Undertaker won the World championship from Batista at this year's Wrestlemania. The wrestler was set to hold the title for a long period of time.

As it would possibly be his last long title run Mark Callaway put himself in better shape in order to endure the lengthy period. He had been on a part-time schedule for the previous few years as age had been catching up to him.

His gimmick was as popular as ever, though.

So, for almost five weeks he worked a series of matches on tours in Europe defending his title or wrestling in tag team affairs. Until injury struck. Again.

The Taker suffered a torn tricep. The muscle came straight off his bone and, after seeing Dr James Andrews, he was told that surgery was recquired.

But he was still the champ.

The WWE had to decide on a way to get the title from the Deadman. He wanted to do the professional thing and lose the belt in the ring so a series of potential scenarios were thought of. It appeared as though their idea seemed to shift towards Ken Kennedy ending up as World champion.

It made perfect sense.

Kennedy won the Money in the Bank match at Wrestlemania. The winner of this ladder match gets a contract where he can cash in a title match whenever and wherever he chooses. As long as it is within the twelve month period between Wrestlemanias.

Previous winners of this match have been Edge and Rob Van Dam. Both cashed in their contracts at suitable times and won the title.

Fortunately for the WWE the angle they had with Mr Kennedy was being run on Smackdown where the Undertaker is the champion. Him showing up after a Undertaker title defense and making the most of an exhausted fighter would have perfectly fitted in with his sly heel persona.

The way things appeared to be heading was for the Undertaker to beat Batista in a cage match this Tuesday night and then have Kennedy come out once the match is over and take advantage of the champion and thus win the championship.

That way you have a new person as champion and will also have a reason for revenge when the Undertaker returns in six to eight months. They could have even had Batista win the title and then have to face Kennedy. It would have allowed for immediate return matches between the two.

But it isn't going to happen. Not with Kennedy, anyway.

A tricep tear this past weekend to Mr Kennedy will sideline him for the next few months as well. The WWE went into panic mode and decided on a new course of action. They needed a new champion and a reason to explain the title change.

They went to Edge.

On Raw last night Edge fought Kennedy in a match where the winner kept the Money in the Bank contract. The bout was quick due to the covering up of the injury to the holder of the contract. Edge beat him within seconds after attacking him before the bell.

Now, I am assuming the WWE creative team will have Edge play the Kennedy role in the Smackdown episode that will be filmed tomorrow and aired on Friday.

Edge will be World champion at the end of this weeks Smackdown. You heard it here first.
