I coulda been a contendah.
I keep abusing myself mentally about how I could have been in Dublin now taking part in the Irish Open. I was so close to qualifying for this year's event and it pains me to think that I missed the boat by just a few hands.
I will probably have bored you with my rants about coming close but it irks me, I will win a super satellite to a major event soon. You wait and see.
My next target for discussion is another 'contender', Peter Manfredo.
What a joke this guy was.
For those who don't know who I am talking about let me explain; There was a show in the USA called The Contender and it was kind of like a boxing reality show. The overall winner was Peter Manfredo.
He became a professional boxer after wining this series and he was given a title shot against Joe Calzaghe.
Th hype for this bout was great. I really did think the American had a chance of taking the Welshman's Super Middleweight Championship.
How wrong I was!
The cocky boxer was humbled within three rounds in the Millennium Stadium last night. The referee had to stop the fight after he was unable to fight back from a barrage of punches from the champ.
He said he was the 'real-life Rocky' in the press conference before the match but he proved it was all talk with his display. The first Rocky ended with a broken promise but in this real-life tale the promise will be kept.
There ain't gonna be a rematch.
