This post has been a long time coming. A few people have asked me when I intended to update the current situation with my season bet so, without further ado, here it is!
I did a block bet on teams to win their leagues. There were nine teams selected in this bet which means there were five hundred and two bets in total at 10p a line. As I chose them on each-way terms the total amounted to £100.40.
Here is a list of the selections and the current state of play;
1) Indianapolis Colts to win Super Bowl 6/1
So far, so good. The Colts did win the big one so I have already won this part of the bet.
2) Celtic to win Scottish Premier League with a SCR handicap 8/1 (each-way to 3 places)
Celtic are currently sitting on top of their league with seventy-two points. Glasgow Rangers - who are second - have fifty-two. I don't know how these handicap bets work but I have an inkling that this could win.
3) Newcastle United to win Premier League with a +34 point head-start 15/1 (each-way to 3 places)
As I meantioned in the previous point; I don't know how these handicap bets work. Newcastle currently have thirty-six points. Manchester United - who are in the lead of the league - have sixty-six. If we are going on Newcastle having more points than what the leaders walk out with at the end of the season then I am on target. A part of me doesn't think this is the case, however.
4) Real Madrid to win Spanish League 2/1 (each-way to 2 places)
Madrid are fourth in the league. Their form has been underwhelming in recent games. Points mean prizes and drawing is not god enough. Barcelona are four ahead of them at the top of the table.
5) Bayern Munich to win German League 4/7 (each-way to 2 places)
Similar in ways to Real Madrid. Bayern are sittig in fourth place twelve points short of Schalke. I think this will be a long-shot to win now.
6) Lyon to win French League 4/9 (each-way to 2 places)
Lyon are looking great. They are top of this league with fifty-seven points.
7) PSV to win Dutch League 11/10 (each-way to 2 places)
They are doing well. Sixty points and sitting at the top of the Eredivisie. Ajax are right behind them with fifty-five points.
8) Porto to win Portugese League 10/11 (each-way to 2 places)
Porto are top of the league with a four point lead over Benfica who are second with thirty-nine points.
9) West Brom to win Coca-Cola League Championship 6/1 (each-way to 3 places)
Currently in third place. They have played more games than most of the teams around them so it is possible that they could drop down a few spots depending upon results of other games. Their current form has been great, though. The form of other teams will be the deciding factor on whether I win or get a place.
