Playing A Jack-Ass

I was in discussion with Miguel about playing Ace Jack off-suit. We had a lively back and forth email correspondence where I argued that AJ should be a careful hand to play.

And then a few hours later I was sat at a table and got dealt the two cards.

It was getting late and I had $9 left. There had been a raise and a re-raise at my $0.10/$0.20 stakes table and as I was getting bored I thought I would go all-in.

I was the big blinf. I made the move putting all my chips into the pot. The two players called the bet.

The flop - Q 10 9

I had an open ended straight draw needing either an eight or a king. The king would have given me the nut straight as the ace would have been in play.

The turn - K

I win the pot of over $23 proving that sometimes it's good to go against your starting hand discriminations.
