In hindsight, it was probably too good to be true.
I am referring to Sylvester Stallone winning the Academy Award for his supporting role as Rocky Balboa in Creed.
Still, it didn't stop me - and evidently many others - placing bets on him.
The first thing I did when I awoke was check the results from last night. I could have simply logged into my betting account to see if there was around £120 in there. However, I did what I usually do when I haven't watched an event or game overnight, I checked the 'score' online because there's still a little bit of excitement as you wait the split second for the page to load.
I used Wikipedia. The page had pictures of all the winners. I scrolled through. No Sylvester Stallone.
But - there was an image of Mark Rylance.
I had my answer.
Fortunately, after catching Stallone at 16/1, I was in a position to bet against him a number of weeks later. I usually prefer to ride my luck. In this case, I thought it best to just have a backdoor plan in case things went awry.
This foresight did pay off. Sort of. I ended up making £2.28 profit. It could have been worse. Could have been a hell of a lot better.
And there ain't gonna be no rematch!
