Sticking Up For Jiu-Jitsu & Common Sense

The news I woke up to yesterday morning centred on an incident that saw UFC fighter, Thiago Silva, arrested by police after he caused a disturbance at a gym.

He was armed and went back to his home where SWAT teams had to descend onto his property to take him into custody.

That's hardcore.

Then, at the end of one of the articles I was reading, a ridiculous comment was made by a member of the public.

'To be honest with you, I just watched my 4-year old grandson doing jiu-jitsu in Plantation today. Now I want to take him out of it.'

How absurd.

There are road crashes every day. Will she stop him getting the bus to school, as well?

What happened with Silva was a one-off incident inside one gym. Imagine how many gyms there are in the world and this woman wants to stop her grandchild from participating in a sport for something that had no connection with the sport.

Then, on the other hand, she may mean that all fighters turn out to be gun-toting madmen.

And that's just as inane.
