The WrestleMania Bet

As you have probably read on here a few days ago, I placed a Goliath bet on the outcome of eight matches at WrestleMania XXIX.

When I noted that I had seven winners and one loser, the bet hadn't been settled. I wasn't expecting much back so was quite surprised on Monday morning when I checked my account.

I had £67.45 back. That's £42.75 profit.

The odds on the winning wrestlers were quite rubbish so I was anticipating a small loss or a narrowly breaking even so I am thankful for what I got.

I am not thankful to myself, though.

I've been kicking myself for taking Brock Lesnar.

I wrote on this very blog, a number of days ago, that Lesnar was set to lose to Triple H because the latter had lost in their previous bout at SummerSlam 2012. It made sense for HHH to avenge that loss.

So, from August 19th all the way to just after 10am this past Sunday morning my head knew Triple H was going to win.

It took one moment of ill-timed thought to change my mind.

I tricked myself into thinking that Shawn Michaels would cost Triple H the match by accident. This error - I thought - would result in the Michaels squaring off against his best friend at WrestleMania XXX.

With a bit of luck, William Hill will offer odds on next year's card.

And you just wait and see - Shawn Michaels versus Triple H will be one of the bouts I'll be betting on.

Don't ask me who I'm going to pick.

Not yet, anyway.
