Goodbye To The Good Lines

It was sad to hear that Maggie Jones, who played Blanche in Coronation Street, had died.

I am not a hardcore fan of this soap opera as I feel there are far too many characters in the show that are there for comic relief and I feel that doesn't work well with the genre.

With that said, the character of Blanche always made me laugh because of one reason - the world is full of Blanches.

And everyone knows one.

She had the sharp tongue and comic timing and was the epitome of the Great British mother-in-law, grandmother and pensioner.

She was given the best lines and should have been the only character in the show to have been used for the aforementioned comic relief.
