Rick Derringer, Hulk Hogan And Real American

Hulk Hogan - Real American by Derringer

If you - like me - grew up following professional wrestling of the 1980s and 1990s, then there are bound to be many wrestlers' theme tunes you'll be able to recognise.

I'd bet the house on you knowing Rick Derringer's Real American.

I get to write about the song today due to the news that Derringer has recently passed away.

Real American by Rick Derringer

Originally used as the entrance theme for US Express - a team comprised of Mike Rotunda and Barry Windham - the song was moved to represent Hulk Hogan.

And history was made.

That theme was the soundtrack to many of Hogan's triumphs and fails. More the former than the latter.

As a kid, it was the coolest thing ever to see a PPV end with Hogan celebrating a win, Real American playing over the arena's speakers as the show went off the air.

Hogan's charisma alone made him the biggest star in the industry. But - Real American being his theme was a huge part of the overall package.
