On Third Thoughts

When I found out there was a new Naked Gun movie in production, I thought to myself 'that'll be rubbish' because of the obvious conspicuous absences of the original cast members. You know, like Leslie Nielsen, George Kennedy and even OJ Simpson (yes, I wrote that).

The Naked Gun

Then I found out that Liam Neeson was in the lead role. I thought to myself 'hmmm, well - he did do that bit on Life's Too Short well, so he can do comedy even though initial thoughts could think otherwise'.

And now, after watching the first trailer... Well - I am completely on board.

The trailer shows a bank heist taking place. A young girl, holding a lollipop, walks past the police cordon and enters the building despite being warned by the law enforcers. She then ends up pulling off her face and stands to adult height showing that Neeson's character had been in disguise.

He then beats up the baddies.

So, that was a fun introduction. It gets even better.

The main character is then introduced as Frank Drebin Jr. There's a spot where it shows Junior speaking to a shrine of his father, then it turns to another lawman who is talking to a photograph of his father (George Kennedy's Captain Ed Hocken). The third character is then speaking to a shrine of his father - Detective Nordberg (OJ's character), the son then looks to the camera and shakes his head.

That's more or less what locked me in.

It MIGHT be the only big 'joke' (if you can call it that) they have, but I am going to watch.

Plus, I believe Cody Rhodes is going to make an appearance in it, so I kind of have to see how that works out as well.

The fact that this is a part of the original Frank Drebin universe makes it not a 'reboot'. It's more like the fourth film in the series, even though the title doesn't have one of those wacky sequel numbers like 2 1/2 and 33 1/3.

Before Nielsen passed away, there was a plan to create Naked Gun 444 1/4, so I suppose this new movie is the spirit of that one. Kind of.
