The purple monster was introduced to McDonald's customers as far back as the early 1970s. In wrestling terms, he was a heel at first because he was named 'Evil Grimace', but was shortly turned babyface when the company dropped his 'Evil' moniker (ha!).
Back to the Grimace Shake - the company released a limited edition berry milkshake last year. It seemed like an interesting promotion and I hoped the drink would make its way to British shores.
Well - that wait ended yesterday.
McDonald's is currently celebrating having opened its first UK store fifty years ago. One of the latest promotions it has offered customers is the infamous Grimace Shake.
I bought one yesterday and it tasted very nice.
It's a blueberry milkshake. I don't think it's exactly like the one which was sold in the US last year because that was a 'berry flavour' which makes one surmise it had a mixed berry flavour.
The one in the UK is absolutely blueberry. I couldn't taste anything else other than that.
In my opinion, the Grimace Shake is the best milkshake McDonald's has done. I am usually a chocolate or - if pushed - vanilla shake drinker whenever I am in a McDonald's milkshake mood.. I don't bother with strawberry and certainly will never entertain the idea of a banana milkshake passing my lips.
The one-week promotion ends on Tuesday. Good luck if you're on the hunt for one. It took me a three tries to find a Grimace Shake on the Just Eat website because the first two stores I tried had all of their milkshakes listed as 'unavailable'.
