I read that the San Francisco 49ers will wear their white and gold uniform for the Super Bowl.
This is because the team is the designated away team and Kansas City will represent the home side in the game.
There's nothing sinister here. This sort of thing is done every year with alternating conferences. One year the NFC is the home side and then the following year it's the AFC and so on.
White and Gold has been lucky for the 49ers. The team is 2-0 when wearing it in Super Bowls XVI and XXIV when they beat the Bengals and Broncos respectively.
