The Green Bay Packers are now on the hunt for another head coach after firing Mike McCarthy yesterday.
I had read that it was unlikely that McCarthy would still be in charge by the beginning of the 2019 season, but to get rid last night was very surprising considering he guided the team to a Super Bowl.
It's always interesting to look at the Packers' head coach lineage as the team often keeps its coaches for long periods of time. McCarthy was the fourteenth boss in the history of the team.
He was also the first Packers head coach to be relieved of his duties during the season. All the others have left at the conclusion of the season. The only person who departed before the end of a season was Gene Ronzani in 1953. He parted on his own terms unlike McCarthy.
Joe Philbin has been installed as the interim head coach.
