Star Wars Toys 2015

I was following the launch of the new Star Wars toys over the past two days and I have some good and bad to relay about this experience.

I'll start with the eye rolling moments first.

On Thursday, I woke up and noticed that there was a 24/7 unboxing event thing being aired on YouTube. I tuned in for a few minutes. And that's all I could handle.

The hosts were absolutely dreadful.

Did you know that it was Peter Cushing plays Chewbacca? The female host seems to think so. Her overuse of the word 'Awesome' was also grating after a few minutes.

The male presenter was even worse. When they went to an unboxer (or whatever they're called) based in Madrid, the geographically challenged host told us we were watching someone in 'Latin America'.

Okay, that rant is over.

I ended up spending the day making my own look around the Internet and the one toy that piqued my interest was that of the new droid.

BB-8, as he is known, has a special toy that runs on a mobile or tablet app and looks... awesome.

But seriously, it looks great.

I have to admit, I was tempted to buy one of these toys for mysel my youngest nephew.

The Disney Store was offline all of yesterday evening in preparation for midnight yesterday morning. When the website went live, there were a number of toys of the new characters but was conspicuous by their absence were the original characters.

I have since seen some. Smyths Toys has a Luke Skywalker, but I'm unsure whether it is based on The Force Awakens as this figure has a blue lightsaber. If you recall, the last time we saw Luke, he was a Jedi Knight and the colour of his beam was green. His blue lighstaber was lost, along with his hand, at the end of The Empire Strikes Back.

Or.. was the blue lightsaber a subtle spoiler? Not long to go until we find out!
