How Close Was Goldberg To Coming In For WrestleMania XXX?

One of the hopes World Wrestling Entertainment had for WrestleMania XXX was to include Bill Goldberg in a match on the card.

The wrestler last appeared for the company at WrestleMania XX a little over ten years ago and the rumour going around for the past few months hinted at the possibility that he would be brought in to have a match against Ryback.

According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE's offer was not good enough for the former WCW and WWE champion.

Apparently, the company tried selling him on the idea that the crowd would pop huge for him. This is in itself is quite funny. Goldberg has always been about business.

Talking of business - that's exactly why WWE even entertained the idea of bringing him in for WrestleMania season.

A look at the WWE DVD/Blu-ray sales from last year is enough to prove why they decided to head to the negotiation table.

The above figures come from a PDF distributed to WWE investors with information about profit and losses in 2013. As you can see, the Goldberg title had sold 93,000 units even though it had been released in the final quarter of the year.

There's obviously still a market out there that wants Bill Goldberg. WWE realised that and that's why his name was brought up.

In closing, and to answer the question in the post tite - Goldberg was close.

If the money had been right.
