I finished reading Kathryn Stockett's The Help earlier this week and then watched the movie.
I've often read a book before I've seen the movie it is based on because I like to have my own impression of the story before I see what the producers and directors come up with.
The Help was a great novel. I enjoyed the way it was written. I especially liked the way the narrative was structured with the perspectives of the story being from the point of view of the three main characters. It allowed them to come across better.
The screenplay couldn't do that. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the film. I still liked the characters but found I appreciated it more having taken the time to read the novel.
The next book on my list is The Hunger Games. Once I've read that, it will be time to view the film.
