The title says it all. Today's subject is Lobsters.
I was passing through the living room yesterday morning and there was a fishing programme on Sky. The guest was showing a picture of a humongous lobster that had been caught.
It was incredible, I had never imagined that the creatures could get so big. They evidently can.
My amazement was furthered when the guest revealed that the lobster was possibly eighty-years old.
Eighty!
The man said that the person who had caught the animal released it back into the ocean because they didn't have a bucket or pot big enough to keep it.
And rightfully so.
Even if I had a pot with enough capacity to fit the creature, I wouldn't have entertained the thought of keeping it. It has outlasted eighty years under the sea, it's survived, or in the very least, evaded predator-upon-predator so deserves to have been given an element of respect.
I clicked onto Wikipedia as soon as I returned to the computer to see how long a lobster can live for. There are claims by scientists that a lobster can live indefinitely as long as they don't get captured, injured or fall foul to diseases.
See, I learned something this weekend.
