Cardiff Man Wins WWE World Title?

At around 3:45am tomorrow morning, we could see a new WWE World Champion crowned when Wade Barrett defeats Randy Orton at the Survivor Series.

We could also see him lose it immediately. More on that later.

The reason why I am interested in seeing Barrett reach the pinnacle of professional wrestling is because of where he came from.

Those that have seen Wade Barrett since he debuted earlier this year will notice he has a strong English accent and is billed as coming from the North of England.

And that is true. Sort of.

A few weeks ago, I read that Barrett - or Stu Bennett, his real name - moved to Cardiff when he was six years old. I've been trying to find out which part of the city and the school he went to because I think that it's great to think that someone from here will become something that my school friends and I dreamt about during the initial WWF heyday.

To us, America and the WWF were pipe dreams. This guy made it. He proved that it can be done.

Barrett is only a year younger than myself so there is a slight possibility that he will know people that I know, too. That makes it even more of a cool thing should he win the title tonight.

With that said, I have doubts that he will keep the championship longer than a few minutes as I have a feeling that The Miz will cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase at the close of the show and defeat whoever is the champion.

Still, it will be great seeing an adopted Cardiffian raise the belt regardless of how long the reign lasts.
