The Free Bet

I forgot to mention a single bet I did last weekend which sort of contradicts yesterday's post as it makes my win-loss record 11-10.

What happened was this - on Thursday of last week, I got a letter through the post from a well-known bookmaker offering a free £25 bet.

All I had to do was to place £25 on any soccer market and I would then be refunded with a free bet to place on anything else.

I thought the best way to beat the system would be to bet on a hot favourite so I wasn't risking my own money that much and selected Chelsea to beat Hull City.

The free bet didn't show up into my account so I had to ring customer services and they credited me.

As for the game - my heart began to sink when Hull scored first.

Then, when I was making lunch, I heard the crowd cheering and ran into the living room and noticed that the score was 1-1.

I watched a little bit more but then in the eightieth minute mark, feeling I was on to a loser, I decided I would 'tempt fate' and closed down Windows Media Center thinking if I wasn't watching - like when I had been making lunch - I would miss Chelsea's second goal.

And it worked!

I only made £4 profit from that bet but have a free £25 to play with this weekend.
