My original title for yesterday's post was 'In & Out' and I was set to write about Maradona as well as what was going on with Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross and the BBC. I thought it would be best to hold back on writing about the latter situation as I was expecting a lot more to happen.
And I was more or less right.
Russell Brand resigned from his position as DJ of Radio 2 after initially being suspended due to a controversial phone message him and Ross left on the answer machine of Andrew Sachs.
I think both presenters acted unprofessional but I am having as hard time understanding the punishment.
Russell Brand has nothing to lose. He resigned from his job which means he has bragging rights - if you can call it that - that he wasn't fired from his post. His mainstream appeal, despite being slightly tarnished right now, will guarantee him work. He will more than likely make more than what he was earning at the BBC.
Because of this thought, it's obvious he has set himself up as the fall guy in the scenario. Jonathan Ross has a lot more to lose so Brand is taking the bullet.
Ross is on a massive deal with the BBC and it's very unlikely that anywhere else could come close to paying him what he is currently on.
I'm more surprised with Jonathan Ross being involved in all this. He may come off as a fool sometimes but he should have had the maturity to realise he was going too far with his comments.
We've also got to look at the BBC in all of this, too.
When they signed up Russell Brand to fill in a time-slot on BBC Radio 2 they knew what they were investing in. This is his kind of humour.
The person who signed off this pre-recorded show to air must also be held accountable. In fact, I'm surprised he didn't walk before the host.
When you have OFCOM and Gordon Brown breathing down your neck, you know you're in big trouble. More heads will surely roll on this one.
