WWE has made tonight's Unforgiven a one match show, although that wasn't their intention.
The feud between Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels has been simmering for months now and their bout tonight was meant to further this storyline.
As I mentioned on here a few days ago, Michaels suffered a triceps injury. Back when I wrote about it there was speculation that the match could end up being scrapped although I was confident that it would go ahead knowing how Michaels has wrestled with injuries on countless occasions.
Word leaked in midweek that the triceps injury was not as serious as it was initially feared. Whether this is a cover-up or not, it guarantees we'll see a fight between the two.
Where I am anticipating this match, there are three other matches that I am intrigued, yet baffled with.
A number of weeks ago, Raw announced that there would be a 'championship scramble match.' The rules weren't that clear but it got me interested.
Days later, Smackdown's main event was named a scramble match.
And days after that - ECW followed.
Booking 101 in pro wrestling would point to not overexposing an idea. That's why we never see an Elimination Chamber or Hell in a Cell more than once a year.
Oh, I totally forgot.
WWE did give us two Elimination Chamber matches at the same event in February. I guess they think because that did well they can up the ante.
The problem with this scramble idea are the rules - they haven't been clear from the start.
I've lost count with the amount of times WWE.com has changed the concept of the match. When someone with my experience of matches is finding it hard understanding the rules, what will fair-weather fans think of them?
Here is what I think the matches will play out:
1) Two men start out.
2) An additional wrestler enters the bout every five minutes until there are five in the ring.
3) Every time a wrestler scores a pinfall he is the 'provisional champion'.
4) The overall winner and World champion is the person who is the 'provisional champion' at the end of the time limit (20 minutes).
If I've got this all wrong - blame WWE.
