Ric Flair and World Wrestling Entertainment have had a split.
The retired wrestler was kept under contract with WWE to play the role as an ambassador for the company in order to attend functions on their behalf.
The reason for this schism is said to be because he was upset that he was banned from making personal appearances at events not endorsed by WWE.
I don't know what to make of this because I can see both sides opinions on the matter.
Flair, even though he isn't on the active roster, was still contracted to the company so they had a right to prevent him from making appearances at events not associated with World Wrestling Entertainment.
I do notice a problem with that, though.
These third party bookings are not in competition with the WWE. So, what do they have to lose by allowing their contracted employee to make appearances? It would be seen as a goodwill gesture not only to the people promoting these small-time events but also to Flair who is one of the icons of the business.
I bet Flair wasn't happy with his last two returns to TV, either.
He was made to look foolish in an angle with Chris Jericho when Triple H came out of nowhere to threaten Y2J from chasing Flair. This led to Vince McMahon getting Flair ejected from the building.
The following week, he came out as a guest of McMahon during one of those million dollar giveaway segments. The Nature Boy didn't utter one word other than his famous 'Wooo' catchphrase.
After the incredible send-off they gave him during WrestleMania weekend, they made his return to TV less spectacular. They were obviously reading from a different booking playbook on these instances because there could have been big money in a Flair reappearance.
The future may be brighter for Flair. He now gets to do those appearances and, when they dry up, I'm hoping the WWE will welcome him back.
