Making The World Write

Terri Runnels, a former valet in wrestling, has been promoting a writing competition where the winner gets the first prize of her 2,500 square-foot home as well as $100,000.

The idea of the competition is for eager writers to construct an essay explaining how they would make the world right. The name of the competition is cleverly titled, 'Make the world write'. The winner will then be awarded the house as well as $100,000.

Not so fast.

There are catches galore in this scam.

Firstly, each entrant must pay $200 per essay. Then there is a rule whereby the competition is deemed void if there are less than five thousand entrants.

What about if you send the two hundred dollars and there isn't enough entries? Don't worry - they got that covered, too. You get your money back minus $20 for 'administration costs'.

The most worrying thing about this is I am sure there are a lot of people out there who will fall for such a scam.

The organisers claim that this is not a lottery or a raffle by stating that it is a 'contest of skill'. I think this wording is just as clever as the title as I am sure it is hiding behind certain legalities. As far as I can see, this is a raffle and lottery as you have been given odds of at least 5,000/1 as well as having funded your way into these fractions.

I could pick apart at this thing all day but I think I have made my point. This is nothing but a pyramid scheme with a celebrity attaching their face and name to it.

Isn't it ironic that a carny is the spokesperson for this competition?

In closing I would like to write my own essay on how I would make the world right. I'm not going to win a house nor will I pay $200 to enter. I am going to do it for free right here. If you feel compelled to give me a house for this, I'm sure that can be arranged!

'I would make the world right by ridding it of scam artists hiding behind the name of charity in an attempt to rob people of their money and, more importantly, dreams.'
