Fight Night

Oscar de la Hoya versus Floyd Mayweather.

This may sound like a normal boxing match to those who are not clued in on the sport. For those that are - this is big.

Really big.

Tonight's bout between these two is going to be the biggest drawing fight in the history of boxing. Well, that's what it has been built up as.

The last major fight was five years ago. This was the dream match of Lennox Lewis against Mike Tyson.

This fight tonight has more at stake, however.

With the rise of UFC and other forms of mixed martial arts this may be the fight that brings the public back to boxing. The sport has been playing second fiddle to the newer genre in fighting in recent years. Pay-per-view buys of boxing events have looked miniscule when contrasted to that of UFC events.

Tonight's bout is destined to be one of the biggest grossing pay-per-view events in history.

The build-up on the television in America has been outstanding. Both boxers have been featured in fly on the wall documentaries and the back story between the two has made it to the press and beyond.

Ironically, this kind of attention has been the successful way that the UFC has garnered interest for their hot fights.

It just comes to show that boxing may be on the ropes but it can throw a dangerous blow when needed.
