The Draft

After spending the best part of the day running through my mind who to pick for this fantasy draft I think I have arrived at a perfect roster.

1. Shawn Michaels
The Heartbreak Kid has been my favourite wrestler for over ten years. Favouritism may have won out on him being my initial pick in the draft but when you look at his legacy it is really hard to overlook him. Every time he wrestles; he steals the show. I need a wrestler like this.
2. A.J Styles
I haven't seen enough of A.J. Styles but what I have seen is talent. With Jeff Jarrett using his politics in the TNA to remain on top people are looking for something else and A.J is that man. Imagine the matches the number one draft pick and the number two draft pick can have. That's why he deserves a spot high up in my list.
3. John Cena
2005 has been a brilliant year for Cena. He won the WWE belt at Wrestlemania 21 and has held it ever since. He released an album. He has become a crossover media star and with his new movie due for release in 2006 his popularity has the prospect of rising even further. If I was building a new company I would need someone marketable like this.
4 The BoogeyMan
Yes, I picked this gimmick wrestler. We need light entertainment and this guy on the bottom to middle of the card will provide that.
5 Brock Lesnar
His return to action in 2005 has been controversial to say the very least. He has had to resort to working in Japan for an income after failing to come to terms on a return to the WWE even though they still technically own him. I would need Lesnar as the monster heel of the federation. He will be the main guy and I can see money in a champion Lesnar with Michaels and Cena chasing him for the belt.
6 Chris Masters
This guy is the future of wrestling. He has the look but hasn't got the ability just yet. In the long run I anticipate him and Lesnar headlining a big show with Masters being the babyface trying to unseat Brock.
7 Shelton Benjamin
Every good federation caters to other ethnicities. Shelton Benjamin can be to me what Junkyard Dog and to a lesser extent what Ron Simmons was to Cowboy Bill Watts. A draw.
8 Rey Mysterio
A huge Latino follwoing. He has the potential to become a headliner because he is so popular around the world. His matches are awesome.
9 Samoa Joe
I will probably be criticised for choosing Joe this late in the picks but I had to work with wrestlers who I know more about. I have only been able to see Joe in the TNA after hearing about his legend in the ROH rings. I have been impressed so far but is this bad ass image really the next big thing to hit the sport?
10 Hulk Hogan
Nobody mentioned Hulk Hogan in their lists. I pick Mr Bollea because he is the most recognisable name associated with wrestling. If Hogan is involved with your product then it must be a good thing for the casual audience. I know he has a limited style and cannot wrestle as often as he once did but his role would be as the bridge between the old days and the new days. Putting over the stars of tomorrow. He was the guy of the 1980's and was involved in the Monday Night Wars in the 90's so he brings history and the possibility of bringing older audiences looking for a nostalgia ride. Eventually I wouldn't mind having Hogan as an on air commissioner type character. He would give a good rub to the rest of the roster.
