It's 12:46am GMT as I begin to type up this post. I've just seen the Houston Texans beat the Los Angeles Chargers 20-16 in a result that ended the Indianapolis Colts' slim hopes of making the playoffs.
As I mentioned, in Tuesday's post, the odds were stacked up against Indy. They had a two percent chance of making the post-season. The first hurdle for this weekend was to hope for a Chargers victory over the Texans.
Ironically, the Indianapolis Colts' quarterback - Philip Rivers - needed his earlier team to help him out. It evidently didn't pan out for him.
And his current, likely last, team.
I don't see any reason for Rivers to play the next two games: today's visit from the Jaguars and next week's trip to Houston. What is the point in doing so?
Rivers shouldn't play again. Give it to Riley Leonard 'til end of th'season.
As I sit here, I don't know whether I think the decision to gamble on a retired Philip Rivers - by the Colts - was worth it or not. The end result sure points to the negative.
There's a part of me that can accept that the Colts not making the playoffs, as soon as Daniel Jones was struggling with his injuries, was inevitable. Maybe the gamble was worth it even if it didn't pay off.
Have to admit, though - the Colts sure made me think this was going to be a good season. What a great start. The historians will talk about the wheels coming off at 7-2 for years to come.
I'll be haunted by it.
