Breaking A Vow

I made a vow never to play pocket queens ever again - I didn't stick to it.

The amount of times queens have worked against me is forever being mentioned in this blog. I just do not have any luck with them so - the other day - I made the ultimate decision to never play them again.

Until I saw them in my holding this evening, that is!

I was in a qualifier for the Great British Poker Tour's stop In Nottingham and there were three of us left in the tournament. I was the chip leader so made an audacious move and went all-in with the ladies. The small blind called me and the big blind made a fold.

My rival turned over a pair of aces thus denting my chip stack. I was still in the game but had an uphill struggle on my hands.

The game progressed and I clawed my way back into the lead. The player who had beaten me a few hands earlier called me when I had a queen and king. I really should have learnt from my error of going all-in at him earlier as he turned over an ace and a king.

The flop didn't help either of us although he was in the lead with the higher card.

The turn card was a queen which made me the winner in the hand as long as an ace didn't appear on the river. And it never.

I knocked him out with a pair of queens. Ironic huh?

I had a two to one ratio with the final player and I dismantled him in no time. It now means I am in round two which takes place on Friday evening. The winner goes on to the grand final where a seat in Nottingham will be awarded to the winner.

I promise never to play the queens again. Until next time.
