If you read yesterday's post, you'll know that I watched Coming To America in order to get ready for the sequel - Coming 2 America, which came out on Amazon Prime yesterday.
I noted that Coming To America is one of my favourite Eddie Murphy films, but had set my expectations low for Coming 2 America because it had been a long time since I've enjoyed a movie starring Eddie Murphy.
Well - I am glad I wasn't expecting much from the movie because... It was very good!
As I mentioned yesterday, the decision to rewatch the original movie made for a good trip down Memory Lane. Viewing the sequel was also like taking a shot of nostalgia because it was great to see nearly all of the characters from the first movie back again.
In this film, we see Akeem become King as well as find out that - when he visited Queens during the 1980's - he impregnated someone who gave birth to a boy. That boy, now a man, is Akeem's rightful heir.
The movie shows the New Yorker - Lavelle - learn to become royal and, just like his father in 1988, find true love in the most random of ways.
There were so many nods to the original film that I recommend doing what I did and refresh your memory by watching Coming To America before catching the sequel.
