Leslie Grantham Passes Away

The news that Leslie Grantham has passed away has started to filter through just as I was about to write today's post.

Grantham will best be remembered for his role on Eastenders. He played the character of Den Watts who was the landlord of the Queen Vic during the show's earlier years. In fact, if I recall correctly, he is credited with being the first person to utter a word on the series (I might need to clarify this!).

I don't watch the soap opera anymore, but one of my favourite strorylines in its history was the one in 2003 when 'Dirty Den' - as he was called - came back from the dead. Sort of. You see, many years earlier - when Grantham left the programme - his character was killed off after being shot by a hit man.

They sort of did a decent job explaining how Watts faked his death because there were gangsters after him.

It was a short-lived return. Watts was killed off not long after that after Grantham was sacked.
