Garry Shandling

Man, what a crazy year this has turned out to be for celebrity deaths.

And we're not even at the one quarter stage. Yet.

Garry Shandling is the latest name to shuffle off.

I used to love watching It's Garry Shandling's Show back in the mid-1990's when it used to air on cable TV over here.

The programme was genius. I didn't know of the 'Fourth Wall' in television back when I watched it, but sort of got what he was doing when he would turn to the viewers at home during the sitcom and break character, if you will.

It was only just a few weeks ago that I was randomly clicking on YouTube videos and ended up at the theme tune to It's Garry Shandling's Show. If you don't know what I am on about, seek it out yourself. It might help you understand the point I am trying to make in regards to how ahead of its time (it was created in the mid-80's) and clever his work was.

From there, Shandling did The Larry Sanders Show which was another postmodern comedy. This series was a sitcom with a talk show inside. A modern day play within a play.

He was a genius.
