Want A Turtle? Read On...

It was deja vu all over again yesterday when I was reading the Daily Mirror website.

One of the stories that appeared on the site was a warning to fans of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, which opens up this week.

The paper wrote that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) was urging people not to buy terrapins or turtles because children could potentially grow bored of the animals and end up dumping them.

The same sort of stories were around in the late '80s and early 1990s when the Teenage Mutant Ninja - sorry, Auntie - Hero Turtles first arrived on British TV.

I have to admit, what they wrote back then turned out to be 100% accurate.

I saw the result with my very own eyes.

Children of my era DID get fed up of their terrapins and turtles once the fad wore off.

How do I know? Well, I wasn't a terrapin or turtle owner but I did see a handful of the animals swimming in a lake near where I live.

The animals were thrown away when they outgrew the tanks their owners purchased. It was quite sad to see them treated like that.

I'm not going to be a moral compass. If you want a terrapin or turtle, buy one. Just remember you have been warned.

Like I noted - I have seen what happens when the craze ends.
